God is great and I bow before the Almighty for all His mercies and benevolence. The Divine Providence was evident all through this academic year. I thank the Almighty God for His constant Guidance and blessings and I dedicate this report at His feet.
We are extremely happy to have Dr. S. David Amirtha Rajan, in our midst as Chief Guest of the day. He is an eminent educationalist, an ardent supporter of innovation and quality in education and a very good friend of us. We are really blessed by your presence, Sir.
Before illustrating the various activities of the college in this academic year, I deem it appropriate to trace the history of this college.
History
JC College was started in the year 1994 by the Philanthropist Jayaraj Chelladurai as the realization of a long standing need of the people of nearby villages for a college. By choosing Nallakaruppanpatty, a backward area at that time, the founder had the firm conviction that the emancipation of the people is possible only through education of the masses.
Located in the scenic beauty of Kodikanal valley, against the green background of Western Ghats , on the Dindigul- Theni High way, 6 km from Periyakulam, it was the only college in the locality and was highly sought after in the early stages. It was the first self financing college in the District of Theni and was one of the leading educational institutions at that time, sources say. It has a spacious campus in an eco-friendly atmosphere.
Started in 1994 with 4 courses viz. B.Sc. Comp Science, B.Com, BBA, and B.Sc. Physics, this College steadily progressed in the initial years. Mr. Jayaraj Chelladurai was the Founder Correspondent and continued till 2007.
In 2001-02, permanent affiliation was granted to B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Physics, BBA and B.Com. . B.Sc. IT was granted permanent affiliation in 2002-03. BCA was approved in 2001-2002 but later BCA was converted to B.Sc. IT in 2002-03.
Another land mark in the history of the college was the introduction of Co-education from the academic year 2003-04. However, some unfortunate incidents with grave and far reaching consequences occurred during the examination time of 2003-04.
In the academic year 2007-08 Dr. Kurian Abraham took over as the correspondent. 3 B.Sc. courses in Maths, Biotechnology and Microbiology were added in 2008-09. In the current academic year (2009-2010 ) , BCA, BA English and B.Sc. in Hotel Management & Catering Services were also introduced.
From this academic year, (2009-10 ), the JC College is being run by the C.M.I. Fathers. Fr. Issac P.J. CMI joined the office of the Principal on 28th of April 2009 as the 16th Principal of this college.
The CMI’s
CMI stands for the religious Congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate. We are the first catholic indigenous religious congregation for men, started in 1831 by 3 men of God – Frs. Thomas Porookara, Thomas Palackal, and Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara. We have around 3000 members in the congregation, rendering services in various parts of India and abroad, especially in the field of education.
From the very inception, CMI congregation has given high priority to education. Taking up education as a service to the nation, the CMIs consider education as the integral formation of the human person for the fulfillment of his/her individual and social responsibilities. We try to impart holistic education to students and our educational endeavours aim at ‘forming leaders who are intellectually competent, spiritually mature, morally upright, psychologically integrated, physically healthy and socially acceptable and who will champion the cause of justice, love, truth and peace and who are ever open to further growth’.
The statistics show that CMI Fathers manage 24 first grade colleges, 1 medical College , 2 Engineering Colleges , 1 Polytechnic college, 1 University, and around 400 schools, in various parts of India and abroad. Besides, imbibing inspiration from our founder, Bl. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the CMIs render praiseworthy services in other fields like Social work, Hospital care, non formal education, Pastoral care, and Missionary work.
Under the able leadership and management of the CMI Fathers, JC College has been marching towards excellence during this academic year, caring for the holistic and integral development of students with a harmonious blend of curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities with the motto ‘Passion for Excellence’.
Faculty
The energy and strength of an educational institution is its dedicated and qualified faculty. To empower our faculty members before commencement of the academic year, a Faculty Orientation Programme was conducted on 2nd & 3rd of June 2009 by Mr. Paul Symphorian and Mrs. Julie Evelyn Vanspaul, followed by Faculty Development Programme by Prof. Tomy Cheriyan and Mr. Shibu on 5th & 6th of June.

The other members of faculty may complete their M Phil degree by the end of next academic year. The administrative work is being successfully carried out by 4 non- teaching staff and 8 supporting staff of the college.

A suggestion emerged in one of the faculty meetings, and a one day outing was arranged to Kodaikanal for teaching and non-teaching staff on August 29, 2009 for fellowship and better team building.
