Welcome
Dear and Rev. Dr.James Aertheyil CMI, the correspondent of the mary matha Institutions who provides over the function, Honourable Dr. Alagappan the Registrar, MKU, Honorable / respected members on the dias- Panchayath President, Parent representative, Mr.Arivalagan the Alumni Association President, Rev. Fathers, distinguished guests, dear parents, Respected faculty members wellwishers of the institution, Alumni members and my dear students, a very hearty good afternoon.
If is my pleasant duty and proud privilege to welcome each and every one of you for this College Day Celebrations and to place before you the Annual Report of the activities of Mary Matha College for the Academic year 2010-2011.
When I look back I see the constant Devine protection and immense blessings on this institution. I bow before the Almighty for his marvellous deeds all through this academic year.
History
Jayaraj Chelladurai College was started in the year 1994. From last academic year onwards the college is run by C.M.I. Fathers. Our Principal Fr. Issac P.J. CMI took charge on 28.04.2009.
The CMI’s
CMI stands for the religious Congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate. We are the first catholic indigenous religious congregation for men, started in 1831 by 3 men of God – Frs. Thomas Porookara, Thomas Palackal, and Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara. We have around 3000 members in the congregation, rendering services in various parts of India and abroad, especially in the field of education.
We try to impart holistic education to students and our educational endeavors aim at ‘forming leaders who are intellectually competent, spiritually mature, morally upright, psychologically integrated, physically healthy and socially acceptable and who will champion the cause of justice, love, truth and peace and who are ever open to further growth.
CMI Fathers manage 24 first grade colleges, 1 medical College , 2 Engineering Colleges , 1 Polytechnic college, 1 University, and around 400 schools, in various parts of India and abroad. The CMIs render praiseworthy services in other fields like Social work, Hospital care, non formal education, Pastoral care, and Missionary work.
Faculty
The energy and strength of an educational institution is its dedicated and qualified faculty.
Fr. Joby Alex has joined this year as the Administrator and hostel warden. He is also serving as Lecturer in our biotechnology department.
We have 27 fulltime faculty members 4 part time faculty members and 1 Librarian, of whom 19 are M. Phil degree holders and 2 are on the verge of completing their PhD. The other members of faculty will complete their M Phil degree by the end of this academic year. The administrative work is being successfully carried out by 4 non- teaching staff and 8 supporting staff of this college.
10 Staff meetings were conducted in this academic year in which the Principal and faculty members discussed and planned various activities.
Faculty Participation in Conferences / Seminars/ Workshops
Mr. M. Muthukumaran, H.O.D. Management Studies, presented a paper on “Human Resource Auditing” in the National seminar on “Strategic Issues” in Administration, Annamalai University on 11th June 2010.
Mr. C. Atheeswaran of Comp. Science department attended State Level seminar on “Data mining and Research” in Nadar Saraswathi College, Theni on July 2010.
Chef. Raj Mohan, Lecturer of Hotel Management department, presented the paper titled “Hidden Gems in young talents” for the open competition conducted by the Madurai Kamaraj University, affiliated college teachers.
S. Packiya Raj, H.O.D Mathematics attended 2 days National seminar on “Advancement of Mathematics and its Applications” in Vickram College of Engineering in Madurai Sivaganghi road, Enathi in November 2010. He also participated in the State level Seminar on “Recent Trends in Applied Mathematics” organized by Jayaraj Annapackiam College, Periyakulam on 11th February 2011.
Mr. M. Harikrishnan, Dept of Tamil, has attended 10 days national level seminar (22.11.2010 to 1.11.2010) on “Sanga Ilakiya Pathivugal” at Madurai Thiyagarajar College.
Mr. D.J. Naganathadurai, Vice principal, Mr. C.Atheeswaran, HOD of CS & IT department, Mr. Rajmohan, HOD of HMCS department attended a seminar on “Emotional Intelligence” which was organized by Dept of Education, MKU on 23rd & 24th November 2010.
Mr. J. Shanmugakumar attended the state level Technical Symposium on “cloud computing” on 30.12.2010 organized by the Department of Computer Applications
Mr. N. Jeyakumar, HOD of Commerce attended the State Level Seminar on “Modern Financial Services” organized by Dept. of Commerce in Jayaraj Annapackiam College, Periyakulam which was held on 5.2.2011.
Infrastructure
The college has enough infra structure facilities required to impart quality education, such as well equipped library, computer Labs, well furnished Bio-Sciences Labs, Labs and Training centers for Hotel Management and Catering Services, Purified drinking water facilities, prayer hall, furnished faculty rooms, spacious play ground, renovated courts for basket ball, football, cricket and volleyball for men, and throw ball for ladies.
We built a well equipped stage for the auditorium and a furnished hostel for women.
We also fulfilled our promises which were given at the Parents Meeting. We installed traffic barricade in the highways to slow down the speed. We bought a new high-tech bus for the student which is getting ready for use by the middle of March.
Library
The college library has 5272 Volumes with 25 current Subscriptions including journals. More than 700 volumes were added in this academic year. Last November 8th to 10th we had conducted a book exhibition from the “Ayyanar book Shop” from Dindigul. Students and staff utilize our library materials and non print materials like (CD-Cassettes).
Courses & strength
We offer 11 U. G. programmes for which the total present strength during the current year is 340 students. First year 162, Second year 88 & Third year 90. I am hopeful that our intake will substantially increase during the forthcoming years.
Teaching and learning methodologies & innovative practices:
The College has made substantial progress in introducing ICT enabled teaching and learning. Learning becomes effective with the help of LCD projectors, and by using audio visual presentations. Teachers also adopt innovative teaching practices like quiz programmes, modeling, seminar presentations etc. in the class room to make it more effective and interesting.
Special Training
1. Instrumental Music Coaching
S.Packiyaraj HOD Dept of Mathematics was in charge of “Music Class” More than fifteen students attended the class and got benefit through this programme. Mr. Umanath was the trainer.
2. Tally Accounting
A Skill enhancement certificate programme was conducted by Dept of CS & IT for the third year students. 10 students have successfully completed the course with ‘A’ grade.
3. Value added Course from HMCS
Hotel Management & Catering Science department launched a Value Added Programme to the students on Basic Catering Management.
This Programme helped to gain knowledge in various cuisines enabling them to be employable ones. This Basic Catering Management covers the various regional cuisines and exhibits the cooking flair among our students.
4. TANCET / CAT
S.Packiyaraj, HOD Dept of Mathematics, conducted a special free coaching class for the IIIrd year students regarding TANCET /CAT examination. More than 35 students attended the class and got benefit of this programme. The main motive behind this programme was to make students to get in to good career opportunities.
5. Spoken English
The College conducted a year long special coaching for first year students in speaking English. A written test was conducted to identity students who were to undergo this special training offered by the English department. The Classes started in August 2010 and continued up to end February 2011 wherein the three batches under the guidance of Mr.D.J.Naganathadurai, Mrs.Amudha & Prof. Soby Sebastian developed the capability of students to understand and speak English well.
Remedial Classes :
Weak students were identified from their class performance and internal assessment tests, and such students were given special coaching by conducting remedial classes. Registers are being maintained to monitor the performance of each student.
Effective steps have been taken respective the class teachers to monitor the attendance. The HODs of various departments and class teachers regularly interact with the parents of weak students to monitor their performance and attendance.
Co- Curricular Activities
Literary & Cultural Association (LCA)
Representatives are nominated from each class and Mr. Sanjeevi Kumar was elected as the General Secretary of LCA. Mr. Gokilakumar and Ms. Stephy Thankachan were elected the joint secretaries. LCA has given support in organizing College functions like Independence Day, Ethnic Day etc.
Inauguration of College Associations and Clubs: The combined inauguration of all clubs and associations of the College for academic year 2010-’11 was held on 3.7.2010, after the reopening of the College on 17.6.2010. Mr. Rajeev Thomas Vaidyan, Chief Manager, LIC Periyakulam, was the Chief Guest of the day.
Raaz –Ma – Tazz 2010 – Talent Hunt Competitions: Talent Hunt Competitions in arts and cultural items were held for students in the college from 16.8.2010 to 30.8.2010. In this two week festival, around 160 students took part in various competitions. Sony Jose of II B.Sc (Physics) was adjudged the College Champion.
Independence Day: Independence Day was celebrated suitably in the College on 15.08.2010. Fr. Roy CMI hoisted the national flag and gave the Independence Day message.
Celebration of Ethnic Day: The College celebrated Ethnic Day on 21.8.2010 on the occasion of Onam. Students came in their traditional dresses and took part in various cultural and games competitions. It was indeed a very memorable day.
X’ Mas 2010
Christmas was celebrated in a grand way on 23.12.2010. A crib was made and the entire campus was illuminated with stars and lights. In the formal function held, Rev.Fr. Vimi Charlie, the parish priest of Theni Catholic Church, was the Chief Guest. Rev. Dr.James Aerthayil CMI, Correspondent of the college, presided over the meeting. Rev.Fr. Issac P.J CMI gave the key note address. Rev.Fr. Joby Alex CMI, the administrator & hostel warden of the college, and student Jegadeesh felicitated. “Calendar 2011” brought out by the College was formally released by the Chief Guest and distributed to each student. Carol songs, tableau and the presence of Santa Claus added mirth to the entire function. There was also a lucky dip for teaching- non- teaching staff and students. Students also presented a beautiful skit on the theme of X-mas.
Pongal Celebrations & Welcoming U.S. Students from St.Thomas University, Minnesotta
On 13th January 2011 a team of 16 students and 2 faculty members from St.Thomas University, Minnesotta, USA, visited the College for a cultural exchange programme lasting one week. The team led by teachers Mr. Ted and Ms.Liz were suitably welcomed by our College along with Pongal Celebrations 2011. Rev.Fr.Issac P.J CMI, Principal of our College, inaugurated the programme and the festival celebrations. Mr. Sanjeevikumar, LCA Secretary, gave a brief on the Pongal Celebrations and the traditional myth and story behind this harvest festival in Tamilnadu. Several cultural events were presented on the occasion. Rev. Fr. Joby Alex CMI, extended felicitation on the occasion. Various games were organized for students in the College quadrangle, followed by service of Pongal rice and Sugarcane to all the students and guests. Mr.M.Muthukumaran welcomed the gathering and Mrs.P. Bhuvaneswari extended vote of thanks.
Winners of Laurels
Mr.S. Sugumaran of III year IT student bagged 3rd prize in elocution competition on “Periyar” at Bodi which was conducted by Theni Collectorate. Mr. V. Karthick and Mr. Kanagaraj of III year Comp. Science won 3rd prize in Quiz competition at PVP intercollegiate meet.
Mr. S.Sugumaran of III year B.Sc InformationTechnology bagged First prize in Elocution Competition and Ms.M.Muthumari of III year B.Sc IT bagged II Prize in Essay Writing which was conducted by Thangamuthu Polytechnic.
Mr.T.Muthuraj and R.P.S. Ramkumaran secured second prizes in “Dump Funny “conducted by Nadar Saraswathi College.
Eight students of BBA department went to Bharath Niketan Engineering College held ZEST 11 and won second prize and third prizes in “ADZ UP”.
Clubs and Associations
Commerce Club, Management Club, Science Club, English literary Club and Tamil literary Club were inaugurated in the beginning of the academic year with Staff coordinators and student office bearers designated for running various programmes.
Commerce club
Commerce club is a forum designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the national and international environment in commercial activities. The club organized programmes like extension lectures, seminars and industrial interactive sessions to suit to the latest industrial demands.
On 28.7.2010 the first year members were welcomed by the Commerce club. Our Principal Rev.Fr.Issac CMI gave Presidential Address. Motto of the club was briefed S. Hariharan, Chairman of the club. Our members entertained the audience by variety cultural Programmes. First year students were impressed by the senior students, by their talents. III B.Com students attended the State Level Seminar on “Modern Financial Services” organized by Dept. of Commerce in J.A College, Periyakulam, on 5.2.2011. “Commerce Carnival 2011” conducted on 26.02.2011.
Management club
Management is a universally accepted process. It needs practical experience than theories. To ensure ‘The quality of future mangers’, the department of management studies organized the ‘Management Club’ and it gave varieties of training to students to become eminent managers in the present competitive world.
It organized a program to welcome the new members from first year to the club.
The Management club arranged an ‘Educational tour ‘ on 29th and 30th January this year during which students visited ‘RAMCO’ cement Company and ‘Vandalore’ Biological Park besides traditional places like Mahabalipuram, Tanjore etc.,
Science Club
Fr. Issac P.J CMI, the Principal of the College, was elected as Patron, Mr. C. Atheeswaran HOD, Dept of Computer Science as Mentor and Mr. Mohamed Nizam, Lecturer, Dept of Biotechnology as coordinator of the Club. Innovative techniques and methods in various science related fields were presented by students its inaugural event. Mr. Mohammed Dhaha of III comp. Science student was selected during the year as student reporter in “Puthiya Thaimurai”, a Tamil magazine. Mr.T. Muthuraj, III year IT student was also selected as Junior Reporter of “Vikatan” group of publication for Theni district.
Tamil Literary Club
Our organization primarily focuses on English based quality education. However we should not forget the importance of Tamil.
Hence a Tamil Literary Club was started with 20 members from students named as ‘SIGARAM TEAM’ Mr. M. Harikrishnan from the department of Tamil, Coordinated the Bharathiyar’s Day o September 08, 2010, under its auspicious..
The chief guest of the day was Mr.Ponnusamy, DEAN, Tamilnadu Horticultural University, and Periyakulam. The programme mainly focused on the importance of the need for Tamil litracy.
Competitions in Essay and poetry writing, elocution and singing etc., were held.
The participants were given certificates and prizes. The cultural activity on this day was full of entertainment and every one appreciated it.
English Literary Club
English Literary Association (ELA) was founded by the department of English in the beginning of this academic year. The aim of ELA was to make students intelligent and to be efficient in their language skills. English department staff Mr. D.J.Naganathadurai HOD, Prof. Soby Sebastian, Mr.E.Sureshkumar, Mrs.P.Amudha and Mr.Gurupandian, ELA Secretary put in their best of efforts for the development & progress of ELA members.
ELA organized several competitions, and events for the benefit of its members during the current academic year. By way of illustration, some of these were:
1. News Reading Competition
The opening event by ELA was a “News Reading Competition” to improve reading and pronunciation skills of students. The thrill of the event was such that there were over a dozen participants in this first over event.
2. Spelling bee Competition
ELA conducted a “Spelling Bee Competition” as its second event which enabled the students to have interest in learning new vocabulary and correct spellings and pronunciation of new words.
3. Literary Quiz
The Third was a “Literary Quiz” based on English Literature. Through this event all our student members acquired wide knowledge in English history and salient features of English language.
4. Elocution Competition
The fourth Programme was an Elocution Competition. This enthused students to develop a strong desire to be powerful speakers.
5. One Act Play
The final of ELA activity “One Act play” was with production of a “THE INTRUDERS” presented by its members. Besides the audience, we got a word of appreciation from our Fr.Issac P.J CMI, Principal and the members of our distinguished faculty.
Hotel Management & Catering Science
B.Sc., Hotel Management & Catering Science Programme started its operations from the academic Year 2010 – ‘11. The department has well equipped Training Kitchen and Restaurant facilities for students to get International class exposure.
Hotel Management celebrated International Chefs day on the theme of “Go Green Chefs” on Oct, 20, 2010. In this event prepared 20 Varieties of dishes with green ingredients and the emphasis was on values of organic food.
“World Bread Day” was celebrated and organized by the dept at Hotel Fortune Pandiyan, ITC Group, Madurai, as part of its Extension activity. In this Bread Mela, students were prepared 22 varieties of dishes and introduced a new concept in cooking with Breads.
Hotel Management & Catering Science students received one month Industrial exposure Training at Hotel Chitra Residency, Tuticorin. During the training period students gained hands –on training on real functions of the hotel industry.
Christmas day was celebrated by the department on the theme of “Christmas Toast 2010”. Students were prepared Home Made wine, varieties of X-Mas Cakes and served it to all the faculty members. Rev.Fr.Vimy Charlie was the chief Guest of the day.
Chef. Raj Mohan, Lecturer in Hotel Management department, gave a lecture & Cooking demonstration to St.Thomas University students, Minnesota, USA on Ancient South Indian Cooking, on the same day.
The department of Hotel Management & Catering Science organized an Intra-departmental cooking competition among students on 25.02.10. Student teams showcased their cooking flair by preparing varieties of Indian delights. The winners were honoured by the Rev.Fr.Issac P.J. CMI, Principal.
On 15.11.2010, Hotel Management dept also organized Grape Crushing Day and brewed the wine ahead of Christmas Eve celebration. This exercise helped the students to know the wine production as part of their curriculum.
Scholarships
CMI Educational Department is motivating students to continue their education despite poor economic conditions & secure good marks each semester. Fourteen students were given Rs.50000 as CMI Scholarships this year. CMI Social Department has also provided Rs.2lakhs scholarships to students.
Our College is thus providing fees concessions to several students from low income family groups.
Besides, all facilities are provided to students to apply for scholarships rendered by Govt and other agencies. Fresh and renewal Scholarships are being extended to 98 students during this reporting year. 21 hostlers availed Rs.1,36,500/ as Special Scholarship for Higher Education from the Central Govt. 37 students are the beneficiaries of Scholarship under the Social Welfare Scheme ( total amount of 66,500/-). In addition, it should also be reported that a few deserving students have been given fee concessions from the college.
Placement Activities
Sixty four final year students were selected in Campus Interviews held on 17th and 18th of February in Mary Matha College, Periyakulam, by Eureka Forbes Ltd., and the Chennai Silks Ltd., The selected students would be joining their duties immediately after completion of their examinations. The positions are in sales & marketing, IT and Back Office operations.
Extra Curricular Activities
Sports & Games
• Theni District level sports Authority had conducted the District level sports and Games Competition on 30& 31st July in which.
• Our College Foot Ball, Basket Ball, Volley ball and kabaddi teams had took part.
• On 31.07.2010, our college student E.Daniel Joseph of III BBA secured II prize in 800 mtr heats and III prize in 100 mtr heats.
• Madurai Kamaraj University ‘C’ zone intercollegiate tournament was held on 21.07.2010 onwards for the year 2010-2011 Our college was represented participated in cricket, Basket Ball and Foot Ball.
• On 11.08.10, our Cricket team participated in the M.K.U ‘C’Zone intercollegiate tournament held at PMT College, Usilampatti.
• On 19.08.10 our team represented in the M.K.U ‘C’ Zone intercollegiate Basket Ball tournament held at N.P.R College at Natham.
• On 7.09.10, our team represented in the M.K.U ‘C’ Zone inter- collegiate Football tournament held at GTN College.
Annual Sports Meet
Mary Matha College, Periyakulam, celebrated its annual sports day on February 19, 2011. Mr.V.Ganeshan, DFO, Theni, flagged off the sports meet. Rev.Dr.James Aerthayil CMI, Correspondent of the college, presided in the inaugural function. Mr.Subbiah (Forest Ranger) was our special guest of honor.Mr.Vinesh Vijayan, HOD Physics, welcomed the gathering and Ms.A. Abinayapriyadarshini, extended vote of thanks.
Mr. Daniel Joseph was adjudged the over all champion and the Blue house was adjudged the house champion. The prelimary events had taken a month to culminate on the sports day which was coordinated by Mr. Mohammeed Nizam, Lecturer in Biotechnology.
National Service Scheme ( NSS)
National Service Scheme (NSS) is functioning very actively in this college with two units- Unit No. 124 & 125, under the able leadership of the NSS Programme Officers: Mr. C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of CS & IT, and Mr. S. Packiaraj, HOD, Dept. of Mathematics.
Student Orientation Programmes were organized by NSS, on topics on topics such as “Mind Power”, “Role of youth in Social Changes”, “NSS moulds Student’s Life” etc., in July & August 2010.
A Blood donation camp was organized on 23rd September 2010; more than 75 blood units were donated to Govt. Medical Hospital, Theni. Gandhi Jayanthi (October 2, 2010) was celebrated by NSS as ‘Green Campus Day’. 500 tree samplings were planted on the day. Road Safety Awareness program was organized on 4th January 2011. Periyakulam DSP, Mrs. UMA gave the Key note address on Road Safety Measures and disposed the queries raised by students on ‘Road Safety’. Seven Day special NSS camp was organized in A.Vadipatty village, where our NSS team carried out several developmental activities. Mr. Alagumani, student volunteer of NSS won 2nd prize in mimicry competition at Youth Carnival which was conducted by MKU.
Youth Red Cross (YRC)
YRC had 89 Volunteers this year. Mr C. Atheeswaran, HOD of Computer Science, is the YRC Programme Officer.
Red Ribbon Club (RRC)
Red Ribbon Club of this college is nodal point for RRC activities in Theni District. Mr C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of Computer Science, is also RRC Programme Officer. HIV/AIDS awareness campaign was conducted in the nearby villages of Silvarpatty and D.Vadipatti by RRC. Dr. Kannan, Nodal Officer, RRC and Mrs. Kavitha, District Manager, RRC delivered special lectures on “Students’ role in Eradicating HIV/AIDS”.
College Functions
Tamil Relay Rally: Our College eagerly participated in the “Tamil Semmozhi Torch Relay Rally” which was conducted by the MKU Youth welfare department. A Big stage was erected in Batlagundu with public announcing systems and lighting facilities. Elaborate arrangements for accommodation including a good dinner were made by our college for the students and the faculty of the rally organizing committee. Mr. Pari Parameshwaran, Programme coordinator, appreciated the college for its meticulous services.
Teacher’s Day:
The Teacher’s Day was celebrated in the College auditorium on 4th September 2010, as September 5th was a Sunday. In the meeting presided over by principal Fr.Issac P.J CMI, LCA joint Secretary welcomed the gathering and Ms.Annie James extended vote of thanks. Complementary roses were distributed to teachers by students and Mr.Hariharan, Lecturer, Dept of Tamil, extended felicitation. The Programme also had several cultural events presented by teachers and students.
Founder’s Day:
Founders, Day and send off to U.S Guests.
After a week’s stay in villages Silvarpattty & Nallakaruppanpatty the U.S team from St.Thomas University were to leave on the morning of January 19, 2011. To coincide with their send off the Founders Day was celebrated this year on 18.01.2011, It was a great occasion for the College community with varieties of programmes. Presided over by Rev.Dr. James Aerthayil CMI, the function started at 3 pm and ended by around 5 pm.
Kanishka, a LKG student from Mary Matha School, Theni, stole the show with a scintillating bharatanatyam performance. Students from the school also presented a contemporary dance. ‘Dance to Allegra’ presented by the U.S Students and the song ‘Hey Jude’ by Beatles were real attractions to the audience. Group dances, Single dances, songs and various other cultural programmes including a karakattam presented by our students were also highly appreciated.
The key note address on B.l Chavara, the Founder of the CMI institutions, was delivered by the Rev.Dr.James Aerthayil CMI, the Correspondent of the college, followed by a visual presentation of the CMI educational mission. A feed back on the visit of the US Guests was given by Mr. C. Atheeswaran through his talk “Kandanthu Vantha Pathai”. Felicitations on the occasion were extended by Rev.Fr.Issac P.J CMI (Principal), Rev.Fr. Mathew Chandrankunnel CMI (Co-ordinator of the US team’s visit & Professor in Dharmaram College, Bangalore), Mrs. Subbulakshmi Murugan (President, Silvarpatty Village), Mrs.Poonkothai Pitchaimani (President, A.Vadipatty Village) and Mr. Anbalagan (Secretary, Mary Matha College Alumni Association). Rev.Fr. Joby Alex CMI welcomed the gathering and Mr.M.Harikrishnan, Lecturer in Tamil, extended the vote of thanks. Several parents also took part in the function besides our College Community and our U.S. Guests.
Parent- Teacher’s Meeting
The college conducted a Parent – Teachers’ Meeting on 15.10.2010. The principal chaired the meeting and 190 parents and all the faculty members participated in the function. Principal Rev.Fr.Issac P.J CMI addressed the gathering and briefed them on the various developmental activities undertaken for the uplift of the students in the college. Separate briefs on curricular activities were rendered by Mr.C.Atheeswaran HOD, Computer Science and Ms. X. Sudha, faculty in Physics. Various co-curricular activities were briefed by Prof.Soby Sebastian (LCA) and Mr.A. Mohamed Nizam (Sports & Athletics). A question-answer session followed the briefings in which several parents expressed their suggestions and opinions. The meeting was welcomed by Mr.M.Muthukumaran, HOD, Mgt.studies and the vote of thanks was extended by Mr.D.J.Naganatha Durai, Vice principal. The formal function was followed by an individual assessment of student performance, with the respective departmental teachers and parents.
Republic Day
The 62nd Republic Day was celebrated suitably in the college on 26.01.2011. Mr. C.Thangapandian, Inspector of Police, Devadanapatti Circle, was the Chief Guest. After Tamil Thai Vazhtu by Ms. Janani & team at 8.30 team the audiences were welcomed by Mrs. Shyamala Gowri, Lecturer in Mathematics. Republic day message was given by Chief Guest after flag hoisting. The national pledge was led by Mr. M.Rajesh of III BBA. Principal Rev.Fr.Issac P.J CMI felicitated the community members on the occasion. Ms. Kanimozhi of II Maths extended the vote of thanks. The programme ended with the national anthem.
Hostel Activities:
On 16-6-2010 the College as well as the hostel reopened for the academic year 2010-2011.
13-7-2010 Fr. Joby Alex took charge of the hostel as the hostel warden. Fr. Roy, the former warden, went for his higher studies.
There was a hostel meeting on 13-7-2010 evening chaired by respected Principal Fr. Issac P.J in the presence of the warden.

The Principal and warden discussed with hostilities their problems and gave instructions to them prior to the arrival of the first years. The Hostel time table was also finalized.
The hostel senior’s gave a formal welcome to the first years on 5-8-2010 in a function chaired by Principal. The Warden, PRO and members of teaching faculty were present on the occasion.
There was a farewell party on 17-8-2010 for the Former warden Rev Fr. Roy who is went for his higher studies. The students gave him a send off in a grand way.
College Alumni Association
A very few colleges in the district have formed alumni association. Our college Management and alumni association should have active interface for the development of our institution and welfare of our students. The next annual general of the alumni association meeting will be held on 10th April 2011.
Citizen Consumer Council
Inauguration
Besides e studies our College organizes many programs for the welfare of our students. As one of the activities our college started “Citizen Consumer Council” on 23rd of October 2010. In the honorable presence of Fr.Issac CMI, Principal, and Vice principal D.J.Naganathadurai, and the Co-ordinator of citizen consumer council (CCC) the inaugural function was held in our College auditorium. The program started with a prayer song followed by an address by J.Saranya of II BA English. The two chief guest Mr.P.Puthuraja (the “guide of student consumer council”) and Mr.Muthupandi (“district delicate student Consumer Council”) addressed the students on the topic “Consumer rights and responsibilities” and “The Consumer protection ACT, 1986” respectively. Both speeches had good impact which made us aware of consumer rights. Ganalakshmi of I BA., English proposed a vote of thanks and the function ended with the National Anthem. We hope such programs will make students to be efficient future citizens in the society.
