Citizen Consumer Club

Citizen Consumer Club of our college is established for the purpose of spreading the awareness about consumer rights amongst all consumer segments and to help consumers get justice when affected. To enable students understand fundamental rights of citizen and make them realize and learn the fundamental duties of a good citizen.

OBJECTIVES OF CITIZEN CONSUMER CLUB

 Our vision of markets in India, where consumers are careful and vigilant while manufacturers are responsible and ethical, guides us. The objectives of our mission would be:

1.  a) Bring awareness and realization about duties and responsibilities as Citizens of India.
2. b) Spread awareness about the rights and responsibilities of Citizens and Consumers as provided in the Constitution of India, Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and other Indian Laws.
3. c)  To enable children, students and self help groups to work together as a team with local communities and develop in to caring, responsible and honest citizens.
4. d) Mobilize and instill right-consciousness, confidence to question violations of citizen and consumer rights and fight for justice.
5. e) Impart knowledge about real life situations and to enable to development of skills to handle citizen and consumer issues.
6. f)  Instill concern for environment around us as citizens and consumers and sustainable consumption habits.

2010-11 Citizen Consumer Council

Inauguration

          Besides e studies our College organizes many programs for the welfare of our students. As one of the activities our college started “Citizen Consumer Council” on 23^rd of October 2010. In the honorable presence of Fr.Issac CMI, Principal, and Vice principal D.J.Naganathadurai, and the Co-ordinator of citizen consumer council (CCC) the inaugural function was held in our College auditorium. The program started with a prayer song followed by an address by J.Saranya of II BA English. The two chief guest Mr.P.Puthuraja (the “guide of student consumer council”) and Mr.Muthupandi (“district delicate student Consumer Council”) addressed the students on the topic “Consumer rights and responsibilities” and “The Consumer protection ACT, 1986” respectively. Both speeches had good impact which made us aware of consumer rights. Ganalakshmi of I BA., English proposed a vote of thanks and the function ended with the National Anthem. We hope such programs will make students to be efficient future citizens in the society.

2011-12 Citizen Consumer Council

The Citizen Consumer Club organized a workshop on “Consumer Awareness Programme”. Rev.Fr.Issac P.J principal, presided over the function. District citizen consumer club  co-ordinator. Puduraja gave talk on the problems faced on the consumer awareness. Co-coordinator of “Citizen Consumer council” D.J. Naganathadurai spoke on the importance of consumer activities in regular life.

2014-15

• Theni District Citizen Consumer Council administration has conducted “The World Consumer day” on 14.02.2014 in the Collectorate. “Mary Matha College” got the Best Co-ordinator Award for citizen consumer activities  in the academic year of 2013-14.  The District Collector handed over the award to the Mary Matha College co-ordinator Mr.D.J.Naganathadurai.

2017-18

• D.J.Naganatha Durai was awarded the Best coordinator of Citizen Consumer Council on 11^th December 2017.
