The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year, 1969. In May 1969, a conference of student representatives (of universities and institutions of higher education) convened by the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission also unanimously agreed that a national-service scheme could be an instrument for national integration.

2010-11
National Service Scheme (NSS) is functioning very actively in this college with two units- Unit No. 124 & 125, under the able leadership of the NSS Programme Officers: Mr. C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of CS & IT, and Mr. S. Packiaraj, HOD, Dept. of Mathematics.
Student Orientation Programmes were organized by NSS, on topics on topics such as “Mind Power”, “Role of youth in Social Changes”, “NSS moulds Student’s Life” etc., in July & August 2010.
A Blood donation camp was organized on 23rd September 2010; more than 75 blood units were donated to Govt. Medical Hospital, Theni. Gandhi Jayanthi (October 2, 2010) was celebrated by NSS as ‘Green Campus Day’. 500 tree samplings were planted on the day. Road Safety Awareness program was organized on 4th January 2011. Periyakulam DSP, Mrs. UMA gave the Key note address on Road Safety Measures and disposed the queries raised by students on ‘Road Safety’. Seven Day special NSS camp was organized in A.Vadipatty village, where our NSS team carried out several developmental activities. Mr. Alagumani, student volunteer of NSS won 2nd prize in mimicry competition at Youth Carnival which was conducted by MKU.
2011-12

Life Orientation Program was conducted for Tamil and Non Tamil on students separated on September 14th 2011.An Eye Screening Camp was conducted in collaboration with Vasan Eye Care, Theni on 22nd September for the benefit of our students. A Blood Donation Camp was held on September 23rd 2011 with the help of Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society & State Blood Transfusion Council. More than 90 volunteers donated blood and we received an Appreciation Award from State Blood Transfusion Council for thus service.
The NSS Units organized a 7 day Special Camp at G.Kallupatti, from 27th November to 3rd December 2011 at Arignar Anna Elementary School and carried out various developmental activities. Mr. P. Valiayapathy, President, G. Kallupatty presided over the inaurugal function and Fr. Issac, Principal, Jayaraj Chelladurai College, was the chief guest. Health and Hygienic Campaign was organized on 29th November 2011. Road Show and Rally was conducted to make awareness among the villagers. Notices were also distributed. Mr. S. Jeevarathinam, Commissioner, Periyakulam union was the chief guest.
Various activities were carried out by the Camp volunteers including cleaning work in the area, a health and hygiene campaign for local awareness, a forestation drive, veterinary camp and treatment for animals and an anti – Aids campaign. Several dignitaries like Periyakulam Union Commissioner Mr.S.Jeevarathiram, Rev.Fr.Antony Paulsamy, DFO Mr.P.Veerabhathiran, and Dr.A.C.Mohanraj participated as guests in the camp. Dr.S.Chinnaih, MKU NSS Co-ordinator, was the Chief Guest at the valedictory function. A Road Safety Awareness Rally was jointly organized with Periyakulam Traffic Police and our NSS units at Periyakulam on 6th January 2012. Mrs.P. Uma, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Periyakulam inaugurated this rally from Cumbum Road to Madurai Road.
2012-13
Mary Matha College organized a 7 day special Camp at G.Kallupatti, from 27th November to 3rd December 2011 and carried out various developmental activities in the village. A Road Safety Awareness Rally was organized jointly with Periyakulam Traffic Police and our NSS units at Periyakulam on 6th January 2012. Mrs. P. Uma, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Periyakulam inaugurated this Rally from Cumbum Road to Madurai Road.
A Blood Donation Camp was organized in the College auditorium on August 10th 2012 with the help of Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society & State Blood Transfusion Council. 90 volunteers from the college donated blood and we have received an Award from State Blood Transfusion Council for the service. Voters Awareness Programme was organized on 12th October 2012 with a human chain.
Road Safety Awareness Rally was jointly organized with Periyakulam Traffic Police at Periyakulam on 6th January 2012.
2013-14
Two Units (124, 125) of NSS are working successfully in our College.
We organized a 7 day special Camp at Renugasamthiram, from 23rd December 2013 to 28th December 2013 and carried out various developmental activities in the village.
Blood Donation Camps were organized in the College auditorium on September 2nd 2013 and 3rd January 2014 with the help of Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society & State Blood Transfusion Council. 200 volunteers from the college donated blood and we have received an Award from State Blood Transfusion Council for the service.
Road Safety Awareness Rally was jointly organized with Periyakulam Traffic Police at Periyakulam on 16th January 2014.

Road Safety Awareness Rally was jointly organized with Periyakulam Traffic Police at Periyakulam on 13th January 2015.
The Dengu Awareness Programme was conducted on February 2nd 2015.
2015-16
Two Units (124, 125) of NSS are working successfully in our College.
We organized a field work on the Sree Moongilanai Kamatchipuram Temple, Devadanapatti (09.01.2016).
We organized a special Camp at Agamalai from 4th March 2016 and carried out various developmental activities in the village.
2017-18
Two Units of our college NSS conducted several activities in the academic year 2017-18. These activities include Yoga Training Programme, Tree Plantation, Rally, Voters Day, Dengue and Blue whale game Awareness Programs, Disaster Management workshop, and Blood Donation Camps etc.
To sensitize the students and to involve them in community development, 7 days residential camp was organized by the NSS Units of our college at Silvarpatti Govt. Hr. Sec. School (24.12.2017 to 30.12.2017).
2018-19
We have Two Units of NSS and they conducted several activities in the academic year 2018-19. These activities include Yoga Training Programme, Tree Plantation, Rally, Voters Day Awareness, Dengue and Blood Donation Camps etc.
2019-20
We have Two Units of NSS and they conducted several activities in the academic year 2019-20. These activities include Yoga Training Programme, Tree Plantation, Rally, Voters Day Awareness, Dengue and Blood Donation Camps etc.
Our College and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Theni conducted “Neighborhood Youth Parliament Program” on 21st June 2019.
Our NSS Unit in collaboration with Indian Medical Practices and Life Style conducted medical program on 28th June 2019.
Blood Donation Camp was oraganised on 14th December 2019.
Our NSS Unit and Periyakulam Traffic Police Department jointly conducted the Road Safety Week on 20th January 2020 at Periyakulam
Our NSS Unit in collaboration with ICDS, Theni conducted a Traditional Food Fair on 13th February 2020 and Nutrition Awareness Program on 12th March 2020.
Our NSS collected data of around five villages under the scheme “Swatch Bharath Abhiyan” a national wide cleanliness campaign. National Voters day was celebrated on 09th January 2020. 158th Birth Anniversary of Swamy Vivekananda was celebrated on 20th January 2020
2020-21
We have Two Units of NSS and they use to conduct several activities in each academic year. Our College organised a webinar with NSS & UBA on the title ‘Discover The Gandhian In You’ on 02.10.2020. The Programme was presided over by the Principal Rev.Fr.Issac PJ CMI and felicitated by Rev.Fr. Bijoy CMI. Mr. P.V. Natarajan, Assistant Professor, Department of HMCS, Mary Matha College of Arts& Science was the Resource Person.
