Red Ribbon Club

Red Ribbon Club (RRC) Programme is a voluntary on-campus intervention, aimed at heightening the risk perception and preventing HIV among youth. Red Ribbon Clubs have become a powerful medium to reach out to young people. Red Ribbon Club  is envisaged to instill among all the students in the educational institutions values of service, develop healthy life styles, and increase availability of safe and adequate quantities of blood to all the needy. We also aim at harnessing the potentional of the youth by equipping them with correct information on mental health, substance abuse, nutrition and reproductive health: and building their capacities as peer educators in spreading message on positive health behavior in an enabling environment.

It was established 2009 in our college by the students under the guidance of teacher coordinators. The club is run by student volunteers and aims to serve various purposes like awareness against drug abuse, substance abuse, anti-AIDS campaign, inspires blood donation etc. Another chief purpose is the empowerment and overall development of youth.

RRC has more than 100 volunteers from Ist and IInd Year students. All the volunteers are working for the noble cause of awareness among the rural and urban population about AIDS and other such disease that the society is facing, and promoting overall progressive health and wellness.

RRC in our College is started from the academic year 2003-2004

Objectives

The main objectives of the Red Ribbon Club is to encourage students to take up various  activities such as

  • Awareness Programmes on AIDS
  • Voluntary Blood Donation
  • Poster Making /Slogan Writing Competition
  • Skits ,Declamation Contest , Essay Writing, Quiz etc

2009-10

The Red Ribbon Club, was introduced with a noble cause to create awareness about the dreadful effects of HIV and to lend a helping hand to the affected.

RRC was active with various training programmes, awareness camps and blood donation camp. Mr. C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of CS & IT is actively involved in RRC as its  Program coordinator.

A talk by  Ms Umasri, District Coordinator, RRC  on  “Celebrating  Life” (HIV, AIDS awareness ) was conducted on 7th October, 2009.

A blood donation camp was organized in the College auditorium on January 6th 2010 with the help of Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society & State Blood Transfusion Council. 90 volunteers from the college donated blood which was highly appreciated by the Organizers.

Red Ribbon Club volunteers of our college participated in the ‘HIV/ AIDS awareness and prevention Express’ – a train Exhibition held at Madurai Junction on 18th and 19th March under the university banner.

2010-11

Red Ribbon Club of this college is nodal point for RRC activities in Theni District. Mr C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of Computer Science, is also RRC Programme Officer. HIV/AIDS awareness campaign was conducted in the nearby villages of Silvarpatty and D.Vadipatti by RRC. Dr. Kannan, Nodal Officer, RRC and Mrs. Kavitha, District Manager, RRC delivered special lectures on “Students’ role in Eradicating HIV/AIDS”. 

2011-12

Red Ribbon Club of the college is quite active in our College under the leadership of Mr.C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of Computer Science, RRC provides blood donors through out the year to Govt. Hospital, Theni and Govt. Medical College Hospital, K.Vilakku

2012-13

Red Ribbon Club of this college is nodal point for RRC activities in Theni District. Mr.C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of Computer Science, is also RRC Programme Officer.

2013-14
