Literary and Cultural Association provides the students a platform to display their creative talent in art and literature. The aim of the Association is to inculcate among the students a love for arts and culture, to enhance their literary skills and to provide an avenue for self expression. The Association organizes various competitions like debate, elocution, poetry recitation, extempore speech, skit, mime, dance, poster painting, mehandi, flower decoration etc on the occasion of annual gathering. Students are encouraged to participate in intercollegiate/interuniversity /state/national level competitions, Youth Festival, Sahitya Sammelan etc.
Main Objectives
1. To attain a broad knowledge of various literary traditions both in their specificity and interrelation.
2. To cultivate a complex, trans disciplinary understanding and appreciation of literary texts, cultural artifacts, and diverse media in their wide political and social contexts

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmers.
Main ObjectivesDevelopment of Student's personality through community service.
MottoThe motto of NSS is “Not me, but You”. There are various camps that the NSS conducts but the major works done are:
- Cleaning
- Afforestation
- Stage shows or parade creating awareness on social problems, education, cleanliness etc
- Inviting doctors for health camps.
- Most of these camps are conducted in rural places or sub-urban areas.
2009-2010
National Service Scheme (NSS) is functioning very actively in our college with Two units- Unit No. 124 & 125, under the able leadership of the NSS Programme Officers :Mr. C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of CS & IT, and Mr C. Manoharan, Lecturer, Dept. of Commerce.
- In connection with 63rd Independence Day, our N.S.S. units conducted a mass cycle rally with the theme “National Integration” on Saturday, 22nd August 2009. Inspector of Police, Periyakulam Circle, Mr. Seeralan inaugurated the rally. The rally started in-front of Periyakulam DSP office and went through nearby villages and reached our college in the evening at 5.00 o’clock in a very enthusing manner.
- On 10th September, 2009 NSS of our college organized a mega event in our campus. on “First Aid and Life saving techniques” by joining hands with 108 Emergency Management and Research Institute, Chennai,
- NSS arranged a special talk in the college on 22nd September on “Anti-Tobacco and Anti Drugs” by Mr. Velmurugan, Co-ordinator, Arogya Agam, an NGO based in Aundipatti.
- On 24th September 2009, NSS organized a massive Tree Plantation Campaign in connection with the NSS day celebrations on the theme “NSS – A retrospect” or “NSS and the road ahead”. More than 50 saplings were planted inside and outside the college campus.
- The annual NSS Camp was held at Manjalar Dam, near Devadanapatti, during 30th November to December 6th 2009. Eighty students took part actively in this residential camp. Several service programmes involving the villagers were taken up by the Campers. Mr D. Manibharathi of I yr BBA was adjudged as the best NSS volunteer at the NSS Camp.
The programme officers deserve my special mention, thanks and congratulations.
2010-11
National Service Scheme (NSS) is functioning very actively in this college with two units- Unit No. 124 & 125, under the able leadership of the NSS Programme Officers: Mr. C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of CS & IT, and Mr. S. Packiaraj, HOD, Dept. of Mathematics.
Student Orientation Programmes were organized by NSS, on topics on topics such as “Mind Power”, “Role of youth in Social Changes”, “NSS moulds Student’s Life” etc., in July & August 2010.
A Blood donation camp was organized on 23rd September 2010; more than 75 blood units were donated to Govt. Medical Hospital, Theni. Gandhi Jayanthi (October 2, 2010) was celebrated by NSS as ‘Green Campus Day’. 500 tree samplings were planted on the day. Road Safety Awareness program was organized on 4th January 2011. Periyakulam DSP, Mrs. UMA gave the Key note address on Road Safety Measures and disposed the queries raised by students on ‘Road Safety’. Seven Day special NSS camp was organized in A.Vadipatty village, where our NSS team carried out several developmental activities. Mr. Alagumani, student volunteer of NSS won 2nd prize in mimicry competition at Youth Carnival which was conducted by MKU.
2011-12
National Service Scheme (NSS) is functioning very actively in this college with two units under NSS Programme Officers: Mr. C. Atheeswaran, and Mr. S. Packiaraj. Under the NSS a
Life Orientation Program was conducted for Tamil and Non Tamil on students separated on September 14th 2011.An Eye Screening Camp was conducted in collaboration with Vasan Eye Care, Theni on 22nd September for the benefit of our students. A Blood Donation Camp was held on September 23rd 2011 with the help of Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society & State Blood Transfusion Council. More than 90 volunteers donated blood and we received an Appreciation Award from State Blood Transfusion Council for thus service.
The NSS Units organized a 7 day Special Camp at G.Kallupatti, from 27th November to 3rd December 2011 at Arignar Anna Elementary School and carried out various developmental activities. Mr. P. Valiayapathy, President, G. Kallupatty presided over the inaurugal function and Fr. Issac, Principal, Jayaraj Chelladurai College, was the chief guest. Health and Hygienic Campaign was organized on 29th November 2011. Road Show and Rally was conducted to make awareness among the villagers. Notices were also distributed. Mr. S. Jeevarathinam, Commissioner, Periyakulam union was the chief guest.
Various activities were carried out by the Camp volunteers including cleaning work in the area, a health and hygiene campaign for local awareness, a forestation drive, veterinary camp and treatment for animals and an anti – Aids campaign. Several dignitaries like Periyakulam Union Commissioner Mr.S.Jeevarathiram, Rev.Fr.Antony Paulsamy, DFO Mr.P.Veerabhathiran, and Dr.A.C.Mohanraj participated as guests in the camp. Dr.S.Chinnaih, MKU NSS Co-ordinator, was the Chief Guest at the valedictory function. A Road Safety Awareness Rally was jointly organized with Periyakulam Traffic Police and our NSS units at Periyakulam on 6th January 2012. Mrs.P. Uma, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Periyakulam inaugurated this rally from Cumbum Road to Madurai Road.
2012-13
Mary Matha College organized a 7 day special Camp at G.Kallupatti, from 27th November to 3rd December 2011 and carried out various developmental activities in the village. We organized a 7 day special Camp at Renugasamthiram, from 23rd December 2013 to 28th December 2013 and carried out various developmental activities in the village.
Blood Donation Camps were organized in the College auditorium on September 2nd 2013 and 3rd January 2014 with the help of Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society & State Blood Transfusion Council. 200 volunteers from the college donated blood and we have received an Award from State Blood Transfusion Council for the service.
Road Safety Awareness Rally was jointly organized with Periyakulam Traffic Police at Periyakulam on 16th January 2014.

“Service to humanity is service to God.” Two Units (124, 125) of NSS are working successfully.
Blood Donation Camps were organized in the College auditorium on 12th December 2014 with the help of Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society & State Blood Transfusion Council. 100 volunteers from the college donated blood and we have received an Award from State Blood Transfusion Council for the service.

The Dengu Awareness Programme was conducted on February 2nd 2015.
2015-16
Two Units (124, 125) of NSS are working successfully in our College.
We organized a field work on the Sree Moongilanai Kamatchipuram Temple, Devadanapatti (09.01.2016).
We organized a special Camp at Agamalai from 4th March 2016 and carried out various developmental activities in the village.
2017-18
Two Units of our college NSS conducted several activities in the academic year 2017-18. These activities include Yoga Training Programme, Tree Plantation, Rally, Voters Day, Dengue and Blue whale game Awareness Programs, Disaster Management workshop, and Blood Donation Camps etc.
To sensitize the students and to involve them in community development, 7 days residential camp was organized by the NSS Units of our college at Silvarpatti Govt. Hr. Sec. School (24.12.2017 to 30.12.2017).
2018-19
We have Two Units of NSS and they conducted several activities in the academic year 2018-19. These activities include Yoga Training Programme, Tree Plantation, Rally, Voters Day Awareness, Dengue and Blood Donation Camps etc.
- 4th International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2018. Mr.S.Kandasamy, District Revenue Officer, Theni and Mr.P.Rajapandi, Social Activist,Theni were the resource persons.
- World Population Day was celebrated on 17.07.2018. Doctor T.Gomathi, District Medical Officer, Mr.V.Vanatham and Mr.P.Paneerselvam were the Guests.
- HIV/ AIDS Awareness Program was conducted on 30.08.2018. Ms.P.Sumath,Program Coordinator, Jeevan Jyonthi Hospice, was the resource person.

2019-20
We have Two Units of NSS and they conducted several activities in the academic year 2019-20. These activities include Yoga Training Programme, Tree Plantation, Rally, Voters Day Awareness, Dengue and Blood Donation Camps etc.
Our College and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Theni conducted “Neighborhood Youth Parliament Program” on 21st June 2019.
Our NSS Unit in collaboration with Indian Medical Practices and Life Style conducted medical program on 28th June 2019.
Blood Donation Camp was oraganised on 14th December 2019.
Our NSS Unit and Periyakulam Traffic Police Department jointly conducted the Road Safety Week on 20th January 2020 at Periyakulam
Our NSS Unit in collaboration with ICDS, Theni conducted a Traditional Food Fair on 13th February 2020 and Nutrition Awareness Program on 12th March 2020.
Our NSS collected data of around five villages under the scheme “Swatch Bharath Abhiyan” a national wide cleanliness campaign. National Voters day was celebrated on 09th January 2020. 158th Birth Anniversary of Swamy Vivekananda was celebrated on 20th January 2020
2020-21
We have Two Units of NSS and they use to conduct several activities in each academic year. Our College organised a webinar with NSS & UBA on the title ‘Discover The Gandhian In You’ on 02.10.2020. The Programme was presided over by the Principal Rev.Fr.Issac PJ CMI and felicitated by Rev.Fr. Bijoy CMI. Mr. P.V. The main purpose of organizing the Youth Red Cross is: Informing youth members and others the roles and responsibilities of the Red Cross and encourage them to contribute. An awareness on the care of their own health and that of others.
Main Objectives
1. To conduct social and health awareness programmers.
2. Awareness on the care of their own health and that of others.
3. To encourage the students to extend their humanitarian services to the society.
4. To offer First Aid Training to all the YRC volunteers.
The College YRC unit focuses on the following areas:
- Blood donation to the needy people.
- Conducting various health awareness programmes (Dengue) and camps for the students, staff and to the nearby village communities.
- Disseminate the seven fundamental principles of Red Cross and Red Crescent movement through activities that encourage the Red Cross ideals.
- The YRC unit aims to have young people recognized by social leadership as equal partners who address the needs of the most vulnerable sections of the population.

Activities 2009-2010
The College held a soft skills and communication training Programme, with special focus on training in Interview techniques, for its final year students from December 1st 2009 to January 30th, 2010. Subsequently, through a Campus Interview held on January 30, 2010, 15 students have received their employment orders from M/s Eureka Forbes Ltd.
The results of the Campus interview held by M/s Shriram Coconut Products Ltd, Dindigal Rd, Battlagundu, on March 3, 2010, is awaited. More Companies are now visiting the Campus for further selections. Prof.Soby Sebastian, Dept of English, and Mr.M.Muthukumaran, Dept of Mgt .Studies, are the Placement Coordinators. I congratulate them for their achievements 2010-11Sixty four final year students were selected in Campus Interviews held on 17th and 18th of February in Mary Matha College, Periyakulam, by Eureka Forbes Ltd., and the Chennai Silks Ltd., The selected students would be joining their duties immediately after completion of their examinations. The positions are in sales & marketing, IT and Back Office operations.
2011-2012Preliminary training for second year students were imparted to 157 students and aggressive final round training given to 86 students pursuing their final year UG programme during academic year 2011-12.
Improving communication skills and building in various personnel skills to equip the outgoing students to face the competitive employment market were kept as the prime target of the year. Focus was also given to grooming students for entry to reputed higher education institutions across the country for their PG programmes. Besides, several practical mock sessions and drills were held in varieties of interviews and GD techniques, building in self confidence to face any kind of competition. A half day special training was also given to students on 3rd March by Rotary Club, Theni.
Though MNC and National / State level Companies had shown interest in visiting our campus for recruitment the idea had to be shelved off for the year, as vast majority of our outgoing students were particularly interested and in pursuing further studies than getting placed directly after UG programme. The training placement coordination was led by Prof .Soby Sebastian of English department and assisted by Mr.K. Rajkumar, Lecturer in Dept of Management Studies.
2012-13The Excellent academic records of our students do not with the results. They get translated into fruitful career in several corporate.
The College started its year long soft skills –cum – employability training programme from the beginning of the academic year. Preliminary training for second year students were imparted to 348 students and forceful final round training given to 152 students pursuing their final year UG programme during academic year 2012-13.
Vast majority of our outgoing students are particularly interested and in pursuing further studies than getting placed directly after UG programme.
ICICI prudential conducted campus recruitment in our campus and selected 15 students from various departments for the appointment. A few others pursue entrepreneurship in family business.
2013-14 Developing into enterprising individuals…The Placement cell of the College has organized soft skills and employability training in order to provide job opportunity for all the final year students. This training is offered to the students from the beginning of the academic year itself.
Our College organized TCS (Tata consultancy services) placement training programme for the final year students, from 6th January 2014 to 13th February 2014. The training programme was conducted by Mr.Selvin from TCS. After successful completion of training, 8 students were selected by TCS. Hearty Congratulations and best wishes to each of them. 1. The Counseling Cell encourages the students to understand themselves and the issues that trouble them and guides them to resolve their problems. These problems can be personal, emotional, social, family, peer, academic, sexual, etc.

The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) is a voluntary on-campus intervention programme for students in colleges and universities in Tamil Nadu. The first RRC was formed in Periyar University, Salem, in June 2005.It has since acquired a momentum that will be a huge resource in Tamil Nadu's and India's fight against AIDS.
Main Objectives
1. To serve as forums for students to participate in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
2. To promote voluntary blood donation among youth.
3. To motivate youth and build their capacity as peer educators and change agents by developing their skills on leadership, negotiation, and team building.
2009-10
The Red Ribbon Club, was introduced with a noble cause to create awareness about the dreadful effects of HIV and to lend a helping hand to the affected.
RRC was active with various training programmes, awareness camps and blood donation camp. Mr. C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of CS & IT is actively involved in RRC as its Program coordinator.
A talk by Ms Umasri, District Coordinator, RRC on “Celebrating Life” (HIV, AIDS awareness ) was conducted on 7th October, 2009.
A blood donation camp was organized in the College auditorium on January 6th 2010 with the help of Tamil Nadu Aids Control Society & State Blood Transfusion Council. 90 volunteers from the college donated blood which was highly appreciated by the Organizers.
Red Ribbon Club volunteers of our college participated in the ‘HIV/ AIDS awareness and prevention Express’ – a train Exhibition held at Madurai Junction on 18th and 19th March under the university banner.
2010-11
Red Ribbon Club of this college is nodal point for RRC activities in Theni District. Mr C. Atheeswaran, HOD, Dept. of Computer Science, is also RRC Programme Officer. HIV/AIDS awareness campaign was conducted in the nearby villages of Silvarpatty and D.Vadipatti by RRC. Dr. Kannan, Nodal Officer, RRC and Mrs. Kavitha, District Manager, RRC delivered special lectures on “Students’ role in Eradicating HIV/AIDS”.

Main Objectives

The Prevention of Atrocities (Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes) Act 1989 (“Act”) is aimed at countering the multifarious ways in which caste discrimination is played out. The Act is a criminal law that punishes caste-based atrocities against the members of SC/ST by non-SC/ST persons. Despite a stringent law, the conviction rates under the Act are tremendously low and there is a great delay in the investigation of the cases. Despite the strong law, courts have consistently narrowed the scope of the Act and diluted it.
Main Objectives
1. To improve the socio-economic conditions of the scheduled caste and scheduled tribeTo curb offences related to ill – behavior against SCs and STs that break down their self esteem.
2. To curb denial of economic, democratic and social rights.
3. To protect them from social disability like – denial of access to certain places, personal atrocities like - forceful drinking, eating inedible food, injury, sexual exploitation etc.
4. To help them remain devoid of malicious prosecution, economic exploitation and political disabilities.

Our III BBA student Mr N Sunder took part in the Quiz program at MKU which was sponsored by Youth Red Cross. II BBA students took part in the exclusive management meet “Business Kshethra” at RL Institute of Management & Technology, Madurai.
The motto of the Science Club is ‘to explore everything’. Various programs like paper presentation, speech, mime, Software marketing and other cultural programs and competitions were conducted during the meetings.
A novel idea of “Honesty Shop” was implemented by the Science club, where the faculty members and students of the science club can acquire stationery items by putting money in a box. The best part of it is that there is actually no shop keeper there, other than one’s own conscience. The Staff coordinator reports that it is working very well.
Final year students participated in a special lecture on “Cell Phone Technology & Service” conducted in the college on August 3rd, 2009 by Waves technology, Madurai.
Mr.R.Yousuf Raja and Mr.P.Karuppaiya of II year Biotechnology participated in the State level conference on Global warming held at H.K.R.H College, Uthamapalayam, on Dece 17th 2009 and presented posters.

On 28.7.2010 the first year members were welcomed by the Commerce club. Our Principal Rev.Fr.Issac CMI gave Presidential Address. Motto of the club was briefed S. Hariharan, Chairman of the club. Our members entertained the audience by variety cultural Programmes. First year students were impressed by the senior students, by their talents. III B.Com students attended the State Level Seminar on “Modern Financial Services” organized by Dept. of Commerce in J.A College, Periyakulam, on 5.2.2011. “Commerce Carnival 2011” conducted on 26.02.2011.
Management club
Management is a universally accepted process. It needs practical experience than theories. To ensure ‘The quality of future mangers’, the department of management studies organized the ‘Management Club’ and it gave varieties of training to students to become eminent managers in the present competitive world. It organized a program to welcome the new members from first year to the club.
The Management club arranged an ‘Educational tour ‘ on 29th and 30th January this year during which students visited ‘RAMCO’ cement Company and ‘Vandalore’ Biological Park besides traditional places like Mahabalipuram, Tanjore etc.,
Science Club
Fr. Issac P.J CMI, the Principal of the College, was elected as Patron, Mr. C. Atheeswaran HOD, Dept of Computer Science as Mentor and Mr. Mohamed Nizam, Lecturer, Dept of Biotechnology as coordinator of the Club. Innovative techniques and methods in various science related fields were presented by students its inaugural event. Mr. Mohammed Dhaha of III comp. Science student was selected during the year as student reporter in “Puthiya Thaimurai”, a Tamil magazine. Mr.T. Muthuraj, III year IT student was also selected as Junior Reporter of “Vikatan” group of publication for Theni district.
Tamil Literary Club
Our organization primarily focuses on English based quality education. However we should not forget the importance of Tamil. Hence a Tamil Literary Club was started with 20 members from students named as ‘SIGARAM TEAM’ Mr. M. Harikrishnan from the department of Tamil, Coordinated the Bharathiyar’s Day o September 08, 2010, under its auspicious..
The chief guest of the day was Mr.Ponnusamy, DEAN, Tamilnadu Horticultural University, and Periyakulam. The programme mainly focused on the importance of the need for Tamil litracy.
Competitions in Essay and poetry writing, elocution and singing etc., were held.
The participants were given certificates and prizes. The cultural activity on this day was full of entertainment and every one appreciated it.
English Literary Club
English Literary Association (ELA) was founded by the department of English in the beginning of this academic year. The aim of ELA was to make students intelligent and to be efficient in their language skills. English department staff Mr. D.J.Naganathadurai HOD, Prof. Soby Sebastian, Mr.E.Sureshkumar, Mrs.P.Amudha and Mr.Gurupandian, ELA Secretary put in their best of efforts for the development & progress of ELA members.
ELA organized several competitions, and events for the benefit of its members during the current academic year. By way of illustration, some of these were:
- News Reading Competition
The opening event by ELA was a “News Reading Competition” to improve reading and pronunciation skills of students. The thrill of the event was such that there were over a dozen participants in this first over event.
- Spelling bee Competition
ELA conducted a “Spelling Bee Competition” as its second event which enabled the students to have interest in learning new vocabulary and correct spellings and pronunciation of new words.
- Literary Quiz
The Third was a “Literary Quiz” based on English Literature. Through this event all our student members acquired wide knowledge in English history and salient features of English language.
- Elocution Competition
The fourth Programme was an Elocution Competition. This enthused students to develop a strong desire to be powerful speakers.
- One Act Play
The final of ELA activity “One Act play” was with production of a “THE INTRUDERS” presented by its members. Besides the audience, we got a word of appreciation from our Fr.Issac P.J CMI, Principal and the members of our distinguished faculty.
Hotel Management & Catering Science
B.Sc., Hotel Management & Catering Science Programme started its operations from the academic Year 2010 – ‘11. The department has well equipped Training Kitchen and Restaurant facilities for students to get International class exposure.
Hotel Management celebrated International Chefs day on the theme of “Go Green Chefs” on Oct, 20, 2010. In this event prepared 20 Varieties of dishes with green ingredients and the emphasis was on values of organic food.
“World Bread Day” was celebrated and organized by the dept at Hotel Fortune Pandiyan, ITC Group, Madurai, as part of its Extension activity. In this Bread Mela, students were prepared 22 varieties of dishes and introduced a new concept in cooking with Breads.
Hotel Management & Catering Science students received one month Industrial exposure Training at Hotel Chitra Residency, Tuticorin. During the training period students gained hands –on training on real functions of the hotel industry.
Christmas day was celebrated by the department on the theme of “Christmas Toast 2010”. Students were prepared Home Made wine, varieties of X-Mas Cakes and served it to all the faculty members. Rev.Fr.Vimy Charlie was the chief Guest of the day.
Chef. Raj Mohan, Lecturer in Hotel Management department, gave a lecture & Cooking demonstration to St.Thomas University students, Minnesota, USA on Ancient South Indian Cooking, on the same day.
The department of Hotel Management & Catering Science organized an Intra-departmental cooking competition among students on 25.02.10. Student teams showcased their cooking flair by preparing varieties of Indian delights. The winners were honoured by the Rev.Fr.Issac P.J. CMI, Principal.
On 15.11.2010, Hotel Management dept also organized Grape Crushing Day and brewed the wine ahead of Christmas Eve celebration. This exercise helped the students to know the wine production as part of their curriculum.

Management club

11 of our BBA students participated in the event ‘Yuppie Panel 2012’, an intercollegiate programme organized by Nadar Saraswathi College, Vadaputhupatti, Theni on 17.02.2012.
The Club also organized an industrial visit to “Parle – G” biscuit factory, Madurai. II & III year students participated in this industrial visit.
Science Club
Science Club was a new platform for students to showcase their scientific and technological views and ideas. On August 29, 2011, Science Club organized a paper and poster presentation. Mr.V.Rajendra Prasad, Vice Principal, Sri VPR College of Education, Theni, was the chief guest. He gave a talk on ‘Application of Science & Technology for social welfare”.
Science club also organized “Science in Yoga” on 10.11.2012. On the same day, a Rangoli competition was held on the theme of “Natural calamities” and winners were awarded prizes. Eminent yoga experts Mr.Thirunavakarasu, Prof in Yoga, Dindigul and Mr.L.R. Gopalan, Prof in Yoga, Periyakulam were special invitees of the day.
Besides these Science club organized “Nala Kesary” a cooking competition in association with Hotel management & Catering Science department for our students.
Mr.M. Rajachithambaram, General Manager, Hotel western Gatz, Theni was the chief guest. The winners of the cooking competition were given prizes.
Physics Club
Titled “Tachyons” (Entities that move faster than the speed of Light), the main motto of the club is “Plain Living and High thinking “. The club was inaugurated by our principal on 28-07-2012 in which a warm welcome was offered to the first year students.
Seven students from our department participated in a National Seminar on “Industrial Based PLC & SCADA” on 6th January organized by department of Electronics and Instrumentation, Bharathiar University. A programme 5 of our department students also participated in “Phyxplosion ‘12”, organized by PG & Research department of Physics, Lady Doak College, Madurai on January 27.
Biotechnology club
The biotechnology club of the College conducted a job oriented workshop entitled as “Workshop on Bioinformatics” on 18.02.2012. Dr. Parthasarathy lyengear Ph.D. was the key resource person.
Maths club
Named “Skyline Math”. The main motto of this club is “promoting mathematical importance and nurturing excellence in mathematics”.
This club conducted an intercollegiate meet by name “Skyline Math” on September 16th, 2011, in which eleven colleges took part and the overall trophy was won Sri Chunganari Women College, Cumbum.
Computer Academy
Fr. Issac P.J CMI, the Principal of the College, was nominated as Patron, Mr. C. Atheeswaran, HOD, as Mentor and Mr. M.Ganesh Kumar, Lecturer, as coordinator of the academy. The academy launched a new logo and started SMS services to its members. The academy also created a group called ‘FuzzyByte’ to unearth the skills in the students.
Tamil Literary Club
Under the Tamil Literary Club on September 13th 2011 Sigaram Group conducted Tamil Festival Tamil Ilakkiaya Vizha. It mainly focused on Patriot Bharathiyar and his Contribution to the growth of the society. Rev.Fr.Issac CMI, Principal, delivered the Inaugural Address and Mr.P.Subramanian, Teacher, Govt.Hr.Sec.School, G.Kallupatty, gave the Key note Address. Mr. Kuppusamy from “Uratah Sindhanai Ezuthalar Sangam” delivered a talk on the importance of cultural development in the modern society.
Tamil department has been keenly motivating, students and teachers to participate in various inter-collegiate meets and competitions. Many bagged prizes and certificates on September 5th in “Uratah Sindhanai Ezuthalar Sangam”, a programme organized to honor the teachers in and around theni district. Six teachers were selected from the district and were honored on the occasion.
On 23rd December 2011 we celebrated Bharathiyar’s Birth Day. The Inaugural Address given by Rev.Fr.Issac CMI, Pricipal. The Guests of the day were Mr. Chella Muthu and Mr. Bharathan, Mr.Kuppuchamy, Mr.Kandhachamy, Mr. Vaigai Pandi, Mr. Kattu Raja, Mr.Tamil Mani Bharathi.

Hotel Management & Catering Science
On 09.09.2011 Chef. Rajmohan, Head Dept of HMCS and and Joseph Kuruvilla & Joju of IInd HMCS participated in the national Conference ‘Trending Hospitality’ organized by Christ University, Bangalore.
Chef .Rajmohan, started in air cooking receipes and tips in popular radio channel Radio Mirchi FM, Madurai and Chennai. Till date the show has covered more than 50 cooking programmes.
On 12.10.2011, HMCS organized a Mega Chinese food festival, ‘The wok’. Mr.Balasubramanian, Executive Chef, Hotel Fortune Pandian, Madurai, Mr.S.Ramesshbabu, General Manager and Mr.Ashiq, Operation Manager of respectively Hotel ABM, Grande, Theni were the special invitees. Students prepared 18 varieties of dishes on the day. More than 300 people turned for the Food Festival.
On 31.01.2012, Dept of HMCS organized “DHADKAN” an Indian theme Jumbo lunch buffet. Mr.Rajachithabaram, General Manager, Hotel Western Gatz, Theni was the chief guest.
On 17.02.2012, was organized a fire fighting demonstration for the Hotel Management students Mr. Arputham fire station officer, Periyakulam, demonstrated.
Hotel Management students were trained in this various reputed star hotels such as ITC group of hotels and Taj group of hotels.
Dept of HMCS was appreciated and felicitated by World association of chefs’ societies (WACS) and the Indian federation of culinary Associations (IFCA) for their great contributions to the International Chefs day celebration. The felicitation award is to be given at the National Chefs Congress at Taj Vivanta, Bangalore on March 22, 2012.

English Literary Association (ELA) was formed by the department of English in the beginning of this academic year. - Our Department students participated in state level Inter-Collegiate literary Competition, Organized by Jeyaraj Annapakiam College of Arts & Science (Women) held on 20th February 2013. In this contest Jesuraj,from III BA English won I prize in poetry writing, Krishnapriya from II BA English won I prize in Essay writing, Saugeetha from III BA English won III parize for Essay writing and some of the students from our English department attended the seminar and presented the paper on women’s marginalization in India.

The Management Club for the year 2012-2013 started with a Club Inauguration on July 20th 2012. On the same date we organised a WELCOME PARTY for our fresher 2012-2015 batch. After that we gathered for many occasions.

Citizen Consumer Club of our college is established for the purpose of spreading the awareness about consumer rights amongst all consumer segments and to help consumers get justice when affected. To enable students understand fundamental rights of citizen and make them realize and learn the fundamental duties of a good citizen.
Main Objectives
Our vision of markets in India, where consumers are careful and vigilant while manufacturers are responsible and ethical, guides us. The objectives of our mission would be:
a) Bring awareness and realization about duties and responsibilities as Citizens of India.
b) Spread awareness about the rights and responsibilities of Citizens and Consumers as provided in the Constitution of India, Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and other Indian Laws.
c) To enable children, students and self help groups to work together as a team with local communities and develop in to caring, responsible and honest citizens.
d) Mobilize and instill right-consciousness, confidence to question violations of citizen and consumer rights and fight for justice.
e) Impart knowledge about real life situations and to enable to development of skills to handle citizen and consumer issues.
f) Instill concern for environment around us as citizens and consumers and sustainable consumption habits.
Besides e studies our College organizes many programs for the welfare of our students. As one of the activities our college started “Citizen Consumer Council” on 23rd of October 2010. In the honorable presence of Fr.Issac CMI, Principal, and Vice principal D.J.Naganathadurai, and the Co-ordinator of citizen consumer council (CCC) the inaugural function was held in our College auditorium. The program started with a prayer song followed by an address by J.Saranya of II BA English. The two chief guest Mr.P.Puthuraja (the “guide of student consumer council”) and Mr.Muthupandi (“district delicate student Consumer Council”) addressed the students on the topic “Consumer rights and responsibilities” and “The Consumer protection ACT, 1986” respectively. Both speeches had good impact which made us aware of consumer rights. Ganalakshmi of I BA., English proposed a vote of thanks and the function ended with the National Anthem. We hope such programs will make students to be efficient future citizens in the society.
2011-12The Citizen Consumer Club organized a workshop on “Consumer Awareness Programme”. Rev.Fr.Issac P.J principal, presided over the function. District citizen consumer club co-ordinator. Puduraja gave talk on the problems faced on the consumer awareness. Co-coordinator of “Citizen Consumer council” D.J. Naganathadurai spoke on the importance of consumer activities in regular life.
2014-15- Theni District Citizen Consumer Council administration has conducted “The World Consumer day” on 14.02.2014 in the Collectorate. “Mary Matha College” got the Best Co-ordinator Award for citizen consumer activities in the academic year of 2013-14. The District Collector handed over the award to the Mary Matha College co-ordinator Mr.D.J.Naganathadurai.
