MMC and St. Thomas University of Minnesota, USA – MOU

As part of the ongoing efforts for consolidating academic excellence for the rural masses, Mary Matha College of Arts and Science (MMC), Periyakulam East, Theni District, has achieved distinction by entering in to an MOU with the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota, USA on February 24, 2020.

As specified in the memorandum both the institutions will have the following as the main thrust areas:

  1. Exchange of Faculty, Students and Research Scholars.
  2. Joint Programmes for research, education, publication and study materials.
  3. Other related technical and academic assistance as per requirement

This MOU is the result of meaningful interaction between the two institutions over a period of ten years.

The Mary Matha College side has been represented by Fr. Issac P J CMI and Fr. Joby Alex CMI whereas the American side is represented by Dr.Edward Ulrich, Dr..Kimberley Urundy, Chair of Theology,  Dr.Yoru Williams, Dean of the College of Arts & Science, Dr.Timothy Lewill, Senior International Officer, all of them from the University of St.Thomas, Minnesota, USA.

Mary Matha College of Arts and Science, under the stewardship of CMI Congregation, has come a long way in catering to needs of rural based students. The College provides job-oriented courses in hotel Management, Forensic Science, Business Administration, Aviation along with regular  science courses in Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Computer Science, Electronics and Biotechnology. There are courses in Commerce and English  at Undergraduate, Post graduate and Research level.

The College has been appreciated for consistently producing University Rank holders over a period of ten years in various disciplines.

The College is also known for the ambience with its location near the foothills of Wester ghats and the imposing  multistoried buildings with the state of the art technology provided in various departments.

This MOU has proved beyond doubt that Mary Matha College has found a permanent place in the Map of Higher learning in India.

The Journey fron Nallakaruppanpatty, where Mary Matha College is situated, to St.Paul  where St.Thomas  University is functioning, is a dream come true situation. The students and staff register then appreciation for the American counterpart  and celebrate this new identity along with the Principal Fr.Issac P J CMI and Fr.Joby Alex CMI, the prime movers behind this MOU. More is expected from Mary Matha College for upgrading the rural students with academic excellence.

2012-13

Our College received the Vishwaseva – Lions Award 2012 as the Best College from Dr. Justice A.R. Lakshmanan in Chennai organized by Vishwaseva Telemedia & Lions Club on 3rd February 2013.

Blessed Kuriakose Elias memorial State level Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament for men was organized by our College on 13th to 15th February 2013.

Kodai FM conducted the “Kalluri Kalata” Live Telecast in our College campus on 28.01.2013 .

Jaya Plus TV Telecasted about our College in the “Kalvi Parvai” Program on 17.02.2013.

2014-15

Department of Hotel Management of Our College is honored to the award of the Best Hotel Management College which celebrated Internations Chefs Day by Indian Federation of Culinary Association.

2015-16

  • ISO Certification Award Ceremony was celebrated on 19th August 2015. ISO officers handed  over  the ISO Certificate to the Principal.
  • Our College received the Best College Award from Mr. Rajendran IAS, Ex – Governor, Odissa in Chennai organized by SSTV 2016 on 21.02.2016.

2017-18

  • Our College is ranked and rated highly by MHRD NIRF (national Institutional Ranking Framework) by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of india in Rank Band of 151-200 National Wide UG and PG Colleges.

2018-19

  • Mary Matha College of Arts and Science established Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Bharat Niketan Engineering College, Theni., Arul Anandar College, Madurai, and Al Waleed Palace Hotel, Dubai.
  • Our College received Best College Award from former Madras high court Judge G M Akbar Ali,   organised by Supreme Souls Combines (SS Info TV.Kalavichevai Award 2018; Chennai)
  • The 5th Kuriakose Elias Chavara Memorial State Level Interschool Cricket Tournament for Men was conducted from 29th September to 1st October 2018.
  • Our College organized 3 days Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad for our students on 29th August to 31st August 2018.
  • Our College received the Kalvi Thai Bidam Award 2018 from Kaviarasar Kannathasan Tamil Sangam.
  • Our College has been approved and sanctioned grant under Unnath Bharath Abiyan (UBA) by Ministry of HRD for adopting five villages (Melmangalam, Jayamangalam, Keelavedagarai, D.Vadipatti and Endapuli).
  • Kuriakose Elias Chavara Memorial Basket Ball Tournament was conducted from 1st March 2019 to 3rd March 2019.
  • Our College got approval for 3 projects from Department of Science of Technology (DST) under ICPS Programme.

2020-21

Award to The Principal

  • International Education Award 2020   for Top 10 Principals of the Year Award was given to Fr Issac P.J in recognition of his continuing excellence in Teaching awarded at IEA Conference 2020

Global School Award 2020 was received by  for  Mary Matha  College.

  • ‘Global School Awards, 2020’ for the exceptional work and outstanding contribution and services. The category you have been selected for is -Institute in a Leading Role in Academic Shaping – The Global School Awards 2020 was scheduled on 1 3 February 2021.

2019-20

  • Mary Matha College of Arts and Science established Memorandum of Understanding  (MOU) between  Al Waleed Palace Hotel, Dubai.
  • Our College adopted 5 villages (Keela Vadakarai, D.Vadipatti, Endapuli, Melmangalam, Jayamangalam) under UBA (Unnat Bharat Abhiyan). The College is helping theses village panchayaths in making awareness, drafing development plan, providing technology, sharing resources and Knowledge to the development of these villages.
  • The 6th Kuriakose Elias Chavara Memorial State Level Interschool Cricket Tournament for Men was conducted on 5th & 6th October  2019.
  • Our College in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahamedabad, organized Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp during 18th to 21st September 2019.
  • BBA students of this College  got Overall Championship Trophy organized by Parvathy’s Arts and Science College, Dindigul on 21st February 2020.
  • BCom and BSc Students of this College got Overall Championship Trophy organized by Thiravium College of Arts & Science, Theni.

The Department of BBA Aviation Management organized Intramural Competitions on 13th March 2020, Quiz Program, Debate,  Best Manager  and Treasure hunt were the events. Students actively participated.  The Winners were given shield and Certificates
